Isis weeps
Pallet. Enamel and gold foil on shaped copper, 16 x 8 cm.
My fascination with enamel is because of the wonderful depth of colour that can be obtained when this powdered glass is fired in a kiln and fused onto bright copper.
I began by producing images on flat copper, using transparent and opaque enamels. I was able to produce images that became like glazed watercolours.
Wanting to make something that would enable me to display these pieces around the house, I designed a range of shaped pallets that can be used as pen and brush holders. When not in use they stand upright on a window-ledge and catch the light, thus becoming small-scale sculptural pieces.
